How to copy an Instagram caption on Android

On a public Instagram post or reel, copy the caption by selecting it in the app, opening the shared link in a browser, or pasting that public link into Caption Copy.

The actual limitation

Instagram captions can be long, and the in-app text is not always easy to highlight. Reels make this worse because the caption sits on top of video. None of the methods below work on private posts you are not allowed to view as public metadata.

Select the caption in Instagram

1. Open the public post or reel.
2. Tap the caption to expand it.
3. Press and hold. If Android shows Copy, you are done.

If Copy never appears, use a link instead of fighting the overlay.

Open the public link in a browser

1. Tap the three dots → Copy link (or Share → Copy).
2. Paste into Chrome.
3. Select the caption on the public web view.

Login walls and private accounts will stop this. That is expected.

Paste the Instagram URL into Caption Copy

Caption Copy accepts a public Instagram post or reel URL, returns the caption as plain text, and lets you copy it. It does not log in to Instagram and it does not download the reel.

1. Copy link, or Share the post into Caption Copy.
2. Tap Get caption.
3. Copy the text. Use Show hashtags if you want the tags included.

Tips

• Story links and private posts are outside what a public-link helper can fetch.
• Save to History if you are collecting captions to rewrite later — the list is on-device.

Common mistakes

• Pasting a profile URL instead of a post URL.
• Assuming comments are included. Caption Copy returns the post caption, not the comment thread.
